My dad taught me to put people first.

When my dad was eight years old, his mom worked overtime to buy him toys for Christmas. But when he saw that some children in Techwood Homes hadn’t received anything, he gave all of his toys away. His mom wasn’t too happy when she found out—but that story tells you just about everything you need to know about him.

Dad has been blessed with success, but he has never forgotten what it feels like to be the kid who has less. Throughout my life, I’ve watched him step up for foster children, struggling families and people who simply needed someone in their corner.

He taught me that success isn’t measured only by what you accomplish. It’s measured by how you use what you have to help others. My dad has always put people first—and that’s the kind of governor I know he’ll be.
